Among them are that they can be built cost-effectively and rapidly; they are mobile, which means they can be relocated or traded; and because they do not require a large site and sometimes have no land footprint, they can be deployed even in the most remote locations and under challenging ambient conditions, both for temporary or permanent power. Some experts suggest that more than 75 floating power plants are installed worldwide. But historically, floating power plant or vessel-mounted power plant fleets have relied on diesel, gas, or dual-fuel engines that can run various types of liquid and gaseous fuels. Owing to demand for low-cost flexibility, floating power plants are seeing a resurgence.
